Journal entry — October, ShiShi-Iwa House

The first thing you notice in Kanazawa is gold — not the kind that glitters, but the quiet gleam of leaves, lacquer, silence.

At ShiShi-Iwa House, everything is in conversation with nature. The architecture doesn’t impose — it listens. Wood, shadow, gravel paths curving like thought.

It reminded me that design can soothe. That form can hold feeling.

In the afternoons, I walked in Kenrokuen. My hands in my pockets, the scent of rain and cedar. The kind of slowness that changes you.

This is where I began to think about objects that feel lived in from the start. The kind you don’t need to explain.
